Meet the Founder: Caroline Grandjean-Thomsen - Presenter, Facilitator & Dancer
Caroline (“Caz”) is a trilingual human blend between Brazil, Denmark and Indonesia. As a presenter, Caroline shares stories about cultures in Australia and beyond. As a Facilitator, she creatively teaches language and culture. As a program manager, she represents Sydney Opera House for an international cultural exchange program between Australia and Denmark.
Caroline lives and breathes multiculture. She was born in São Paulo, Brazil to a Danish father and Indonesian mother. Her parents had immigrated from their respective countries to Brazil as kids, and therefore grew up as "Brazilians". When she was four, Caroline's family immigrated to Sydney, Australia, which his where she calls home today. Yet, Caroline doesn't consider herself 100% Australian. Nor 50% Danish. Nor Indonesian. Nor Brazilian. She is a little bit of everything and proud of it. Caroline acknowledges that her heritage and connection to such diverse cultures have led her to become the person she is today, who continually strives to be open-minded and willing to learn.
Caroline has four lifetime practises that unlock cultural meaning into her life:
Languages
Caroline speaks English, Danish and Portuguese fluently. Her passion for travel has also led to her learning French, Spanish and Indonesian. Caroline values immensely the connection that languages brings to cultural learning. It keeps her thirst for exploring new cultures and learning from people of diverse backgrounds. Caroline teaches Danish language classes in Sydney and runs local culture tours of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Dance
Caroline has been rhythmic her whole life. She uses dancing as a tool for self-expression and for sharing her positive energy with others. Having passionately lived and breathed dancing for over 20 years, Caz has performed at Sydney Opera House, Subsonic Festival, Mardi Gras and festivals and events around Australia. What Caz loves MOST is to let her hair down - especially with unplanned, impromptu dancing in public!
Travel
Caroline began discovering new places at a young age, thanks to her parents' passion for overseas travel. Having lived in Denmark from 2006 to 2009, Caz has gained insight to the cultural pride and traditions the tiny nation, where she now has has extensive networks. Caz has had the privilege of travelling to six continents - and is so excited to continue exploring the rest of the world. While living in Sydney,Caroline runs local culture tours of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Bringing People Together
In her social life, Caroline is the "go to" person when it comes to organising meet ups, holidays and social events. And when it is an event she is passionate about, Caroline is simply herself, and everything happens organically.
